I've read some books on the emotions attached to money and a few on the actual allocation of money but this is the first that combines it all. I love that the author starts off by showing how money is not the end all/be all and the root of happiness that many feel it is. I also love that he goes into tools to save and prepare in case of an emergency and also for retirement and living comfortably into old age. I have wondered about a few of the topics inside like health savings accounts for example and Brad Rosley does a great job at breaking down and explaining this and many other topics about financial planning and allocation of the money you have coming in. You can obviously tell he is and has been a financial planner for a while and I am grateful for that advice but what I love most is the simplicity, the way he breaks things down AND the fact I started with - that life is about more than money! I learned a lot and can see using this book as a reference moving forward. I am very grateful I added it to my library!
I've always found books on money and managing finances very dry and I often lose interest halfway through. I end up either never finishing the book or just skimming it, which is not helpful, because the advice in such books needs to be followed in some detail. I found Beyond Money different in the sense that it used a different approach: personal advice being given by an elderly person who has actually walked his talk. It kept me glued to the book and I literally finished it in one sitting. I like the writing style and I found it easy to stick with the book. It is a book that I will return to for advice and for practical steps. A worthwhile read with solid advice.
Solid practical advice that would be especially helpful for young couples just starting out so they get off on the right foot and so that they are in agreement about how to spend and save their money. I like that it contains up to date info. And how the author talked about financial wellness and how money is a tool...not a purpose. That money is a precious commodity but time is irreplaceable.
Everyone can benefit from this excellent primer on taking care of your finances. If you don't have a financial planner already, this book covers all the basics (and then some!) and will both get you going on improving your overall financial well-being as well as educate you enough to have an intelligent conversation with any financial planners in the future. If you already have a financial planner...compare what they've done for you to what's included in this book. If it's not much more in depth and covering all aspects that are included in this book, then you need to find a better financial planner. I definitely recommend this book.
OMG, I just went from being financially illiterate to feeling secure in my ability to manage my income and expenses. I always thought that money was a foreign language I could never learn, that I would always be winging it, and that I had to resign myself to financial struggle because of that. No more! Beyond Money is an important book for anyone to read. Followintg the iea of finacial wellnessis a great metaphor for seeing beyond whjat money is and how it will set you free, when you are not beholding to it.I redcommend this fast and easy read to all who would prefer to control theor monry rather than their money control them.
As a former financial professional, I can tell you that Brad has hit the nail on the head with this. He explains what to do financially in a clear language and doesn't get bogged down in mathematical theory or hocus pocus. The couple pages around fear and greed are well worth the price of admission. Love the tagline "Volatility is the price you pay for higher returns." Genius.
