Eric Carle is acclaimed and beloved as the creator of brilliantly illustrated and innovatively designed picture books for very young children. Story-wise, I'm no literary critic so sorry I won't be providing that type of review.I am a visual artist and I can tell you that the print quality is beautiful, the colors are good, and the graphics are nice and sharp. Excellent hard board and print quality. Hopefully, it will last when the real test comes and the baby plays with it (I'm sure it will but I'll keep you posted if not).Only the Spanish translation feels a little unnatural and "translated from English" sometimes, but it's acceptable (I'm a Spanish native speaker and have worked professionally in TV screenplay translations).
Some of the translations are funky. It’s a literal translation into Spanish which means it doesn’t make sense sometimes as the syntax is incorrect.But, it’s simple enough that you can read it in a different way.
Desde chiquita este libro siempre me ha gustado en inglés. Decidà comprar la versión en español para leer con mi hija de 3 años, y le encanta.. yo creo que es uno de sus favoritos. Muy buena traducción
I bought this book for my cousin who is fluent in Spanish, he loved the way that the english book looked that I had to order this for him so he could have his mother read it to him as well. It is smaller than the original book, but it is still just as great!
We bought both the English and Spanish versions. We are lucky enough to have a native speaker to read this one to our little girl occasionally. At two, she understands that our friend can read the book, but we can't, and remembers a couple words. That's almost worth the price of admission right there. Eric Carle is a great writer for this age, not too verbose, but a good variety of words, not just repetition. I'd recommend looking at Brown Bear in Spanish too.
Great story! Kids love it! All the pictures look just like the English version...just like I remember when I was a little girl.
I loved The Very Hungry Caterpillar as a kid, and so does my son. We bought it in Spanish as his father is latino, but he is thoroughly resisting speaking in Spanish! The best thing about this book is the great translation. So many kids books that have been translated to Spanish lose all of their original character, and become bland and boring at best, and wordy and incomprehensible at worst. This one is great! Highly recommended.
