I do not write reviews. But with this sorry excuse for a HOW TO BOOK I feel obligated. I was writing a business plan for a film and so I bought this book hoping it would help. To make a very long story short IT DID NOT HELP. The woman who wrote this book is by no means an expert as she has not produced any notable movie at all. The examples she gives in her narrative are all obsessively based on CATS! Yes, CATS! All, literally, ALL HER MOVIE EXAMPLES OF WOULD BE FILMS are all based on stories about cats and cat titles. It is borderline insane with how many times she mentions cats. I am not sure how a book like this ever got published as any real info given is quite basic and common sense in business practice. I ended up writing a business plan on my own and with help from a few actual professionals and I succeeded in a great business plan. If you want to write a business plan, buy any other book but this one.

BUY THIS BOOK. If you are an independent filmmaker and want to learn about film financing from a truly accomplished expert, then by all means, purchase this book and every new edition that comes out.Louise is a fantastic mentor and her book has become a mainstay... I had the opportunity to attend two workshops featuring her, as well as a private consultation and she is definitely an experienced, grounded voice in the field of film finance.Her book clearly lays out everything you need to know about writing a business plan for your independent feature film and it provides clear examples and reasoning for why things are done the way they're done.By all means, this is a MUST-READ for every independent director, producer and filmmaker.

"Filmmakers and Financing..." is pretty good at helping you piece together a business plan for making a film (or creating a production company) and is better than a lot of the material on the web related to general business plans because it deals with issues specific to films and the filmmaking business. On the other hand, another reviewer has suggested that the book wasn't specific enough and that the example "fictional" business plan didn't seem to have enough substance. I agree with that comment. The author, who helped the "The Blair Witch Project" folks with their business plan, could have suggested some real-life examples (tough to walk the fine line drawn by naturally protected "proprietary information"). It's nice to see what a multi-million dollar production company business might look like, but I have to say that if I'm going to handle that kind of money, I'm probably going to retain a consultant to help prepare my business plan--maybe even the author! It's a good review of things you should know. Glad I read it. I think I'll pass it along to the next person.

I bought this book to get detailed information about how to build a business plan for my start up Film Company. I was very excited when I saw the overview of this title and the fact that it now included a CD-ROM.After going through the entire book in just a few days (I must admit it's a quick read) I found that the explanations were just slightly above basic knowledge and the CD contains only a few forms and worksheets to fill out. The best chapter (Chapter 10), which has a sample business plan, is NOT included in the CD-ROM! This was a complete disappointment since I expected to use this as digital blue print to fill in the blanks for my own business plan.All things considered I did learn some useful principles on how to prepare and present information to potential investors and how to analyze some number (getting them boils down to research and a lot of work, which the Levison herself will admit to) but I really expected more out of the author of the business plan for the Blair Witch Project.

I checked many books before settling on this one. Sadly, not one of my local book shops had any books in stock on servers, so I had to make my decision based on samples and reviews online. Obviously, at around 700 pages, I haven't read the entire epistle - however, between this book, the software and the info available online, I think it is ample information for someone such as myself setting up my first home server.

I have been working with the Vail pre-release for months and moving slowly in using the server in any meaningful way. Now this book is out and I'm immediately finding many ways to quickly utilize various features on our home server. I can't put this book down!This was my first home server install and I can say this book is just fine for folks new to home server and have some basic technical background. Example, I messed up and didn't configure my homeserver with a static IP. The book simply outlines why this is important, and it saved me much troubleshooting a month later after the install and the dynamic server IP address changed.While Home Server 2011 unleashed contains fairly obvious features like file sharing and management, security, and web access, the book goes on to explain areas not so obvious. Following the step by step instructions on setting up a sharepoint site on the windows home server, I now have sharepoint foundation (free limited version of Sharepoint) running for the family to share pictures, files, calendar events and collaboration. Since two of my kids are in college, I have a local computer set up where the kids can connect via a remote session and share or pull information. The book clearly outlines how to connect via the internet so all family members can still participate. Need to keep your windows patches up to date, chapter 14 explains how to install, configure and manage WSUS. Have a Mac (or Linux) and want to connect to the home server, there is a section on how to do that. It provides step by step instructions on how to first get your Mac onto the home server network and than how to specifically connect the Mac. Want to set up a windows home server website, chapter 12 is dedicated to working that step by step - no prior knowledge required. Desire to remote connect in to your home server and do all admin tasks from a locally connected client if your server is not in the same room. Once again, simply laid out in the book. Generally I search the web for fast solutions, but in this case, I've learned to go to this book as my primary reference.I was initially concerned this was the first 2011 Home Server book out and may have been rushed to market, but that is not the case. It has many helpful insights, well written and like I said earlier, supplies valuable information to a wide range of non-technical and technical home server users. And even more critical, I generally do web searches before I open a book. I'm finding it's faster to just open this book then do a web search.Highly recommend.

I bought the 2nd edition hot off the press in April 2010, hoping for a comprehensive as well as up to date WHS reference. This appears to be the first review here of the 2nd edition, so if the previous edition deserved the praise it received for completeness in earlier reviews it apparently dropped several entire subjects in the update.Specifically, don't look for help on any of the following:1. Building or adapting your own hardware platform for WHS. Not a word.2. Installing WHS software. Not a word. The book assumes you bought a complete box ready to boot up.3. Add-ins. As far as this book is concerned, the subject doesn't exist.4. Running other applications on WHS. There is a whole chapter on installing Windows SharePoint Services, (a business-class server app, the usefulness of which in the average household is not clear to me) but that's it. No help on trying to figure out what will work and what won't.5. Backing up WHS itself. Backing up shared folders is briefly covered, but not a word on backing up the backup database even though Microsoft published a procedure a couple of years ago and a very handy add-in "BDBB" automates the process. And nothing on selecting and connecting an external hard drive to use for backups. (When you're backing up several hundred gigabytes, the speed advantage of eSATA over USB 2.0 is quite significant)6. Security. Should you install antivirus software? Sorry, no help there. But a whole section on auditing if you want to detect malicious users in your household, along with some standard advice on securing household PCs.All of the above is not to say the book does not contain a lot of useful information, but the claims that it covers everything of interest are more than slightly exaggerated. There's also a good deal of bloat in the form of excessively detailed step-by-step instructions on working through windows dialogs, along with a lot of stuff on registry editing, VBS scripts, and command-line arguments for those who enjoy doing things the complicated way rather than clicking a few buttons. There is a page-long vbs script provided, for example, to tell you how much free space you have on a hard disk. I guess both kinds of stuff are there to support the claim that the book supports beginners through advanced technical users.I'm still looking for a comprehensive WHS reference.

It's a good book, generally well written and reasonably comprehensive covering the basics. I would rate it between a "Dummies.." book at the low end and Que's excellent "Using..." series on the high end.If you've never worked with servers before you'll definitely need something like this to get started because servers don't operate like souped up Windows machines and this one will get you going.The book could be improved with better standardization of the methods used to describe navigating the various toolbars. Sometimes it's not clear exactly where the starting point is to get you into the dropdowns. The index is pretty thin, which is unfortunate because I generally use it a lot and there are many things I can't find. Also, the book would benefit from being organized into the first section to get you started and following sections to "tweak" performance after its up and running, rather than the exhaustive description of all the features you have to wade through to find what you want.I would buy it again, but would opt for a Que book instead if one was available on this topic.

Before reading this book I knew Leah Remini was as an actress who had been on King of Queens and done some guest spots on Friends and Who's the Boss back in the day. But until she left the church of Scientology a few years ago I had no idea that she had been raised as a Scientologist.In this tell-all/memoir Remini reveals her struggles to make it in Hollywood, the celebrities she met along the way and some of her famous friends who have stuck by her (some of whom surprised me). Throughout the book she shares how Scientology shaped the woman she is and how it encompassed almost her entire world.From the beginning you know that Remini isn't some spoiled Hollywood starlet. She comes off as more than a little brash but she's down-to-earth, likable, funny, unpretentious and I like that she doesn't hide her flaws from her readers. She knows that she has a big mouth but she's brutally honest, fiercely loyal and I respect that.Knowing that she's a 'regular kinda gal' (by Hollywood standards) makes reading about her struggles to fit into the mold the Scientology organization has set for her hard to read. If you're a rule follower and accept the path Scientology has set for you you'll do great. If you have an opinion and question anything, like Remini, you'll have problems and you'll pay (financially and more) for those disagreements.I found reading about how Scientology operates hard to stomach and quite maddening, if I'm being honest. From what Remini describes, it doesn't value family bonds or education (unless it's Scientology based), treats people lower down the chain with sometimes harsh and costly punishments for misdeeds while ignoring the misdeeds of couch jumping erratic celebs. It was shocking.What was more shocking was how indoctrinated the followers are. The church helps this along by doing what it can to keep SPs (Suppressive Persons) - people who have spoken out against the church or who have left it - away from their followers. They don't want critical thinking, they want followers that they can manipulate into giving over large sums of money to take courses to get higher up the chain of command. Everything was about keeping their followers close and away from outside influences. It's all about control ... and money. Lots and lots of moneyReading her memoir has given me a clearer picture of what Scientology entails and also gives me quite a different view of Tom Cruise and how much of an influence he has within the church. Getting a birds eye view of his wedding to Katie Holmes was eye-opening to say the least.So it comes as no surprise that I was more than eager to read about how she left the church. This book brought out a lot of emotions in me. You easily root for Remini to find her way and even though you know that she's a 'troublemaker' and left the church, seeing her struggle, be ridiculed, berated etc for her questions about her religion, which she wholeheartedly loved and supported were hard to read. She was devoted to her church but they were not devoted to her.This is a well-written, emotional and gutsy book. She doesn't hold back any punches with her views of Hollywood, some skirmishes along the way as well as her relationship then and now with Scientology. This is an emotional read but Remini balances the negativity with her sense of humour. It's 7:20 AM as I write this, and I haven't slept since I started reading this book, moments after downloading it. I'm about 80% done at this point, but had to stop and post this early review (I'll update this a bit when I'm 100% done). I've never been much of a fan of sitcoms, so I'm not exactly part of the audience who has had much experience with Leah's acting work - although I knew who she was, certainly. I'd seen enough however to know I found her appealing and incredibly attractive long before I learned she'd be writing this just from what I'd seen in an episode of two of King of Queens. When I heard advance word of the release, having read just about every book there is on the subject of Scientology (from Inside Scientology, to Bare Faced Messiah, to Beyond Belief to The Unbreakable Miss Lovely), from personal accounts to journalistic exposes, I eagerly anticipated Troublemaker. The biggest surprise for me, first off, is how supremely readable "Troublemaker" is - how entertaining, honest, unpretentious, shocking and just plain funny it is. Leah has a big mouth, and she knows it, but her writing speaks directly to the reader in an open and unfiltered way that books written by celebrities rarely do. She isn't a bulls***ter, and she's not going to sugarcoat anything, including her herself. She even starts with something of a confession of past perceived sins, as she is all to aware that Scientology will strike at her as they are known to do, by using information gleaned from auditing to embarrass, intimidate and discredit. She knows she is now "fair game." Even with the little that I knew about her, her account of her early years with her family and struggles as an actress are highly entertaining, and make an honest impression that makes you feel more like a confidant than a reader. For this type of book, it is, surprisingly, very well written - free of fanciful prose, but deeply engaging, concise and highly personal. The early biographical chapters are vital, as it turns out, as it sets a very clear stage for why she was bound to one day become a monumental thorn in the side of Scientology. A theme that pops up a few times is how Leah was sometimes perceived as "lacking in class" (code sometimes used to discredit or embarrass truth tellers, female ones in particular) in comparison to the norm of perceived celebrities and society's elite. This book shows, clearly, that she has more class than the majority of Hollywood's elite put together. I can't wait to read the remaining 20%, and regardless of my ignorance of her acting career, with this book she's become one of my favorite people. If only more people in the world had the guts that Leah clearly has. More so than even the recent Going Clear documentary, this book, in my opinion, has the potential to expose Scientology for the abusive, draining, exploitative, paranoid and disingenuous organization that it has become, the Church of Cruise and Miscavige. And if you're looking for a real window into the bizarre, rarefied world of celebrity scientologists (Leah attending Tom Cruise's wedding to Katie Holmes, for example, and the subsequent fallout after she is brazenly manipulated to get J Lo and Marc Anthony to attend as well, is jaw dropping) you need look no further. Highly, highly recommended.

I like this book because it rhymes. I like it because the mom was being funny. I like it because it was easy for me to read.

My grandson liked the animals in the book. He's in first grade and learning to read. These words provided just the right stimulation without the frustration of being too hard.

Wish I had know this book was religious before I paid for it. Felt like propaganda. It would have been very cute if that had been left out.

I purchased this as an easy reader for my 5 year old. I was pleasantly surprised to find after purchase that it was Christian based. I loved the use of scripture at the end and will be on the look out for more like these.

Excellent!😊 Loved the way it teaches where different things live and sleep. Love the rhyming words too! Great read, recommending to all parents/grandparents!

My first son received a copy of this from his preschool years ago, If I recall the author came to read it at the school. He's too old for mom to read to him now, but this was one of his favorites when I did. We read it so many times that we made a game out of whether I could read it without looking at the book! (I did) This book was our 'last book of the night' and I still recall tucking him in with a "kiss and a hug" each night.Delightful, wonderful book, that was just fun to read.Highly recommend :-)
