I got this as a kindle book and starting reading it before hitting the sack. I read the entire book straight through, underlining my favorite passages, and it is so well written! Lots of simple but sage advice and this book will be on my annual re-read list. Great advice from a great hero!!

This book is an excellent short read, full of great life lessons for anyone. Although the examples are from a military life, it is not a military book. I will gladly recommend this book to all of my kids and fourteen grand kids !

I saw the author on Fox news, and was intrigued. I am certainly not SEAL tough, never was, but anyone can incorporate this into his life. If you are slightly better today than yesterday, and slightly better tomorrow than today, your life will be more meaningful and impactful. I will be purchasing additional copies as gifts.

Outstanding book! Easy, enjoyable read intertwined with important reminders about life. Adm. McRaven uses his time in Naval Special Warfare to background these life lessons, but, doesn't use his service as a SEAL as a self promotion tool.

But maybe she felt that poems of dissent and social commentary ultimately called for a more discordant quality. Delivering a jeremiad with pop tune catchiness can feel as though it undermines the message—though it also makes a commentary about the nature of being underdog.I don’t want to suggest that Angelou’s work doesn’t capture the happy and hopeful as well as the daunting, because it is. But poets deal in emotion, and that means confronting dark topics such as slavery, racism, domestic violence, etc. Her use of dialect language breathes authenticity into her poems and builds the emotional weight of them, which often supports the song-like quality. Amazing poetry, and all in one place. The reason for four instead of five stars is not related to the writing. What I would like to be included with each poem is the date and, if known, the occasion of the writing. The poems are put in sections but one has no way of knowing the time frame, therefore the time in Maya Angelou's life that she wrote them.Highly recommended.

Maya Angelou, in the Complete Poetry (which is simply a collection of her separately published books of poems), is confident and self-possessed. She explores her femininity, her spirituality, and African American history usually with allegories that relate in more ways than one to her personal experiences.

If you've never had a job or you've never seen another book like this, then maybe this book is OK. But honestly, there is nothing new in this book that wasn't written 20 years ago when I started working. This looks to be nothing more than a bunch of rehashed job search common sense.-- The writing style is horrible. It's basically written in bullet points, with a bunch of white space, and bolding. Take out all the unnecessary white space and this book is easily half it's current size. Throw in decent writing style and you'd get to a third its size.-- Much of the stuff in here is incredibly basic. I presume if you've never left your parents' basement all this may be new stuff to you, but most of it is just "common sense", which again may not be as common as I think.-- Much of the book seems like nothing more than advertising. Heck, there is an Amazon link to the book in the book. You've already bought it, why do you need a link to it?-- The chapter on boot camps is non-sense and reads like an advertisement for boot camps. Before you sign-up for a boot camp, please, please, please talk to someone that attended one. Multiple people. And be highly skeptical of the glowing reviews that claim attending a boot camp was just shy of reaching nirvana. Boot camps vary greatly in quality and despite all the glowing reviews you'll see online, there are a lot of negative experiences that never get posted because of pressure from the boot camps themselves. Some boot camps even threaten legal action if you speak of them negatively anywhere on the Internet. Also, many boot camps these days instruct you not to put the boot camp on your resume because of the negative perception/experience employers have had with boot camps. Even "top" boot camps are doing this. I'll leave out names, but it should be evident which are the top boot camps if you're looking into attending one. I'm not saying there aren't good boot camps, but just cautioning you to do a LOT of research and investigative work before dropping $10k+ on what is essentially an intro to web development course.-- Regarding hiring a resume writer, again, buyer beware. I just did such a thing through CareerCup, the site related to Hacking the Coding Interview, and for not a little money my new resume got a little wordsmithing and moved one section around on the page. Essentially no material change. So either I'm an awesome resume writer or I just had a really bad experience. Again, perhaps if you really have no idea how to even approach writing a resume, a resume writer might be a good investment. But I've compared my resume, that I wrote on my own by doing nothing more than following images of resume samples from an interwebs search, against samples pro writers are showing on their sites as samples of their work, and there is no material difference. So at least to start, save yourself the $500 mentioned in the book and find a good looking sample on the web and use that as a template.-- I could go on...I would say the only real benefit to this book is that is gives a high level summary of the major topics of finding a job and what you need to know to be a decent dev. But you can do this easily through reading blogs and such and copying/pasting into the word processor or note taker of your choice. That's the only reason I gave it 2 stars, for the summary.

Next comes a brief description followed by the ingredients and instructions.Many of the recipes also included tip, some offering substitution suggestions others are preparation tips. For the most part, the ingredients are easily sourced except for a few exceptions like the recipes found in the Wild Game chapter. But of course, you wouldn’t be in this chapter if you didn’t already have the wild game meat.Unique And InformativeLike the Kamado Grill itself, These recipes are quite unique. Not simply happy with remaking standard recipe for the Kamado Grill, the author has instead offered the unique creations he makes for his personal chef client.While I was somewhat disappointed that only about a quarter of the recipes included a photo, the pictures included were spectacular. I liked this book and give it a 4 mainly because it has a very good front section on understanding and using the Kamado grill. The Kamado grill is capable of much more than grilling. I have a Kamado junior grill and after I bought it, found out I could bake on it. Had I known that before I bought it, I'd have got the larger version! So I think that a cookbook like this would be great for potential kamado owners to read before they buy their grills. I also really like some of the relish recipes in the cookbook. The recipes are well written with full color, gorgeous photography. Many of the recipes have international inspiration, with a lot of Asian based ones. I do find that the recipes often have ingredients that are quite expensive or just not available in my small town unless I want to travel into the city. Also, a lot of these recipes rely on grill accessories, which the book does show and explain. I bought a pizza stone for my small grill and it was 5x the cost of a regular oven pizza stone and half the size with no real reason why - so do note that some of the accessories might get pricey too, resulting in some quite expensive food to make. The book does balance this cost factor with lots of recipes for chicken, including wings and thighs.

If you want to know about the history of empires then don’t feel hesitate to grab this awesome book. I heard about this last week from my best friend and as per his recommendation I didn’t forget to grab it right way.After reading it entirely I was super impressed and please as well because here I found lots of information about the Roman, American and British Empire. Basically inside of this book the author “Robert Dean” has described about the rise & fall of these greatest Empire’s history. This book helped me to enlarge my historical knowledge and I will definitely like to suggest this book to all kinds of readers but especially for history lovers & students.This is my honest opinion about this book and hope it will help you to understand about the quality of this book.

History of Empires is a short book written about the history of the Roman, American, and British Empires. It also covers Sparta and Babylon and their history. Since it is a short book, it is obvious that the content is not going to cover everything or at least won’t be able to cover things in detail, however, what it does do is provide a general and correct overview of each of the subject matters.I liked how everything was nicely laid out and structurally designed. The seven chapters are not filled with fluffy content and do have a nice flow to them. I was not a big fan of the long paragraphs and would have appreciated some breaks in between, to ease the eyes. Besides that, the book is a good intro for people that want to at least have some idea about past Empires.

What's better than reading a book which is not only historically correct, but very well-written and informative, as well? Maybe a foot massage while reading said book! The initial paragraph pulled me so far into focus, there was no turning back; begin an historical book about world empires by drawing on the obvious parallel of the Biblical book of Daniel and his dream vision of the statue which depicted world powers ... and I am paying attention! Not only was this book informative and historically correct, I felt the author had a firm grip on his storytelling ability. This will be a book which will remain in my Kindle for a long time and I plan to read it again.

This book briefly tells the stories of some of the most powerful empires in history: Babylon, Sparta, The Chinese Empire, The Ottoman Empire, The Roman Empire, The British Empire, and the US. The book is quite short, but very well-written, and serves as a good introduction to those who are not yet familiar with these subjects but want to learn something about them and/or to those who seek to expand their general knowledge.

It’s a short version of the history of empires. Each empire has about four pages to it. Like a 6th grader version for school.It’s a good introductory book for youngsters who are liking history-related subjects, or for adults who want to grasp it all quickly, in 1 hour. The whole book is like 58 pages in big letters.

I ordered the books for my brother he’s incarcerated and the facility wouldn’t let him have them :( so they were returned..I’m sure he would’ve loved them . Sad
