I love travel books written by Lonely Planet. This guide was good to point out the must sees in Dublin. I don’t often find their lodging sections helpful because they only list a few places and I prefer to look for a particular type of place to stay and find Trip Advisor for reviews. I like that they list the top 10 places to see and what is new in the city for someone returning to a place they have already visited. I also like that the book has a removable map to take with you when you’re out and about.

This was a good resource but a bit outdated on a few things, including Dublin's Oldest pub we had wanted to visit that turned out to be permanently closed. Otherwise a very great and helpful read.

Very informative and helpful in our planning for our tour. Nice photos too.

Through every interview in this book, the author delicately places the women's stories out in a manner, which allows for their strength, intelligence and unique capabilities to shine through the circumstances they faced daily. The author does not trample the interviewee's voice nor does he submit his own opinions and ideas, but rather he allows the incredible voices of the women cataloged to claim their own history and struggle.This book is incredibly interesting and well written. It opened my eyes and mind to new ideas and a better understanding of a history I had never thought on before. I finished this book in two days and could hardly put it down once I started. I would recommend this book to people who do not read often, to people who do not read non-fiction often and to avid readers alike. I bought copies for my friends and family members.There are many reasons to recommend books, but this book will truly inspire and enrich the lives of its readers. Bottom line.

I love this book. I thought it was going to be more text book like but im glad its not. It's really eye opening to the beginning stages of women's police work. I would recommend to any woman interested in a policing field.

I purchased this book as a source to help me prepare a book I am writing. this book is an autobiography of my work as a police officer and the struggles being one, especially a female officer in the South Georgia Area.

This was an interesting read. Having been in law enforcement for the last 15 years some in rural North Carolina I understand the challenges faced by these women. As a female you have to prove yourself much more than a male. I have gained the respect of my peers. It was not just given. I attempted to mentor a young female officer an guide her toward a successful path. She advised my superiors that I was intimidating her. I was demoted because of her claim. One day I hope she understands I was trying to save her from the mistakes I had made in the past. It's a shame women in policing are an officers worst nightmare.

Just got it and from start to finish, I just couldn't put it down. Should be a "must read" for all females going into LE.

'Tell Me Something Real' is the powerful story of the deep love and profound loss felt by the seemingly ideal Babcock family in 1970s California. The story centers around Vanessa Babcock, a smart and likeable teenager with a gift for music. She, along with her two sisters, struggle to balance their desire for independence with the responsibility of caring for their mother, who is sick with cancer. The portrayal of Vanessa's relationship with her sisters and parents is richly detailed and brings the family to life. With its elegant prose and vividly drawn characters, the novel beautifully conveys both the languidness of teenage summers and the inexorable tension that comes with the routines accompanying serious illness. A dash of romance and a classic coming of age theme make this novel perfectly suited for young adults, while deeper issues involving illness, familial conflict and a surprising twist will resonate with older readers. This revelation midway through the novel is shocking, yet also elucidates so much of what came before. I highly recommend 'Tell Me Something Real' to anyone looking for a great read. The story is touching, gripping and thought-provoking. It will linger in my mind for some time to come.

This is a gorgeous book that sits facing out on my bookshelf. And it is equally lush and gorgeous on the inside: the prose, the storyline, the affection between the three sisters. Perhaps it's because I'm part of a three-sister triangle that I was so taken by the similarity/difference, affection/tension, joy/anger dynamic among the Babcock girls as they support each other through a terrible family revelation. Devlin also gives us a love story that feels real and important. I've read a lot of YA novels and few have held my page-turning, wonder-what-they're-up-to-now interest the way this novel does.

Just Wow! I don't want to give anything away because I would hate to take away from the experience of this story. The book was just that... A sensational experience. I cannot recommend it enough. I locked myself in my room for 5.5 hours, as I could not dog ear it and come back to it later. The character development in each part (3 parts total) gave me the sense of knowing everything I needed to know to feel engaged and have sympathy/empathy for each character. With each part, i became even more invested in the lives of these 3 sisters. A lot happened in this book, but it did not feel rushed. The story flowed wonderfully. Although I was sad to turn to the last page, I was left totally satisfied.

In the interest of full disclosure, I have known the author for years, so while reading the book started out as an act of friendship, it ended up being a real pleasure. I was a kid in the 1970's and the authenticity of the environment that Calla creates for the story to unfold in felt very comfortable and familiar to me. The emotions were raw and honest and the dialogue was very natural. The internal conflicts of the characters, as revealed through the voice of Vanessa, were very real to me. Unlike some of the other reviewers, who couldn't put the book down, there were a few times that I had to put the book down and let the emotions process for a while. I thought I saw the plot twist coming, but had it all wrong, so that was also a great surprise and emotionally rending. Awesome first novel.

Devlin made me laugh out loud, and then some stuff was just so raw. This family is ALIVE, even though some will live and some will die. Hard truths; and a whole lot of stuff that rings true. Real dialogue. Multifaceted characters, and I love the voice of the protagonist. Devlin made me laugh out loud in some places, and my heart caught in my throat in others. A young romance that is sweet and compelling. Captures a child's perspective, and a parent's reality. Highly recommend.

Devlin's book is haunting. A mother's terminal cancer diagnosis puts her three daughters on edge as they try to cope with the illness and their own feelings. The story takes many unexpected twists and turns, drawing you deeper into the suffering of middle daughter Vanessa, her sisters, and her father too. It is a very thought-provoking book about parental love and loss, and finding yourself. The themes are serious and there are references to sex, although it is not key to the story. I'd recommend for mature teens only.

This story was a good eye opening to mental illness and it's affects on children. I could relate to much of this story. I loved the characters.

It's 1976, Vanessa's mom has leukemia, and their family is a mess. Since Vanessa's dad works all the time to pay the bills, Vanessa, older sister Adrienne, and Marie, the youngest, accompany their mom from San Diego to a Laetrile clinic south of Tijuana. While Mom receives infusions of the poisonous drug, banned in the U.S., the three sisters kill time on the beach. Beautiful, foul-mouthed Adrienne reads fashion magazines, Marie covers herself with pictures of female saints, and Vanessa stresses about not practicing the piano pieces her teacher assigned. Then she meets Caleb who is in remission from lymphoma but having Laetrile treatments to appease his mother's desire for a complete cure. Vanessa's attraction to Caleb is instantaneous, and she is overjoyed when he and his mom Barb move into their home to be closer to the clinic.Life is smoother with Caleb so near and Barb taking care of everyone. But Vanessa's mom is getting worse instead of better, and the word terminal sucks the life out of the family. When Barb suddenly moves out with Caleb, the girls, especially Vanessa, are devastated. More devastating, however, is the reason for their unexpected desertion of a family in need.
