This book can be judged by its cover!This book is not frivolous with content. It does a reasonable job of presenting content that is relevant. It should be stated that it is weighted toward "Soil Taxonomy" (the US soil classification system). Learners and instructors of other systems may have need(s) to augment the text with the particulars of another classification systems details, if comparison and contrasts are warranted, or if another classification system is the primary focus.For my uses, this text is the best that can be purchased as a supporting text used in an advanced soil course that has a signifiant amount of genesis and classification learning objectives.
I would consider this to be a bible of soil morphology. It is comprehensive, authoritative, well written and easy to read. In fact, it's rare to find a textbook that you can just sit down and read and understand, but this textbook is like that. It was required reading for undergrads and grads at my university, and I have found it useful professionally as well. A must for anyone in the soil science, civil/environmental/water resoureces engineering fields.
Great condition, required reading
Overall an excellent text. The next edition would be greatly improved by addition of more figures and photos-- however, it is the concise nature of this book that makes it so convenient. This is the first book I loan out to fellow scientists when they have soils-related questions.

I like text books where the author or authors write in a natural manner, so I graded this book as average as it doesn't flow smoothly. This book is very dry. I've had books on math that were written more smoothly, which is terribly difficult to do. Well, at least the book presents the facts necessary.
