I have a paper copy of this book, and have really enjoyed it over the years. (I have all the books in this series, in fact.) The one thing that bugs me about it is that I live in a different climate zone to Rosalind Creasey, and things grow, and go, differently where I am.

Very nice book but.....the cover was covered in an overabundance of glue or some other spilled substance. Otherwise 5 stars but as a gift its dissatisfying to give. Too late to exchange 🙁

I have had a lot of fun with this book, both in the garden and re-assuring guests. I like to make some people nervous about digging in to a gorgeous platter of food with a few things they don't know if they are supposed to eat. Nice photographs and helpful commentary. When planning the garden for each season, this is the book I turn to for ideas about the finishing touches.

I never thought I would crave flowers, but this book has made me turn a new leaf! Another great inspiration from the Edible Garden Series. This is a valuable reference book as it provides the essentials to a successful garden in a format that is consistent and easy to read. It includes a complete encyclopedia of edible flowers with beautifully detailed photos that are good enough to eat! The photos make it easy for the beginner to learn the names of edible flowers and to easily identify all varieties. The author takes great care in listing any poisonious varieties that might be mistaken as edible. This book also contains sections on Planting and Maintenance, and Pest and Disease Control. It's an all-in-one tool. I plan to order the entire Edible Garden series. As soon as I finish one book, I'm hungry for the next!

In The Edible Flower Garden, Rosalind Creasy shares and explains the beautiful world of cooking with colorful and tasty flowers.Emphasis is given to creating gardens that will supply those flowers. It takes a lot of flowers for most recipes, so it is good to know how many of each to plant and when to harvest. While traditional herbal flowers like lavender and borage are included, there are also selections on vegetable flowers, as well as, some more unusual flowers like lilacs, apple blossoms and begonias.I particularly enjoyed Ms. Creasy's experiences with Alice Waters of Chez Panisse and the edible flower gardens they create to supply fresh flowers for their world renowned restaurant.Of course, the beautiful photos of the Edible Flower Canapes, the Pineapple Sage Salsa and the Rose Petal Sorbet weren't bad either.

This is a beautiful book to look at. And for a beginner it has some very useful information. But for me I was looking for a a more complete source of information. Will probably pass it on as a present to someone just getting started in using flowers in cooking.

Just the info I need to add more edible flowers to my Square Foot Garden plots. Very good descriptions and planting tips. Lots of beautiful pictures of the flowers in the garden. Recipes are great additions. I have a friend who owns a sweets bakery, and I am thinking of trying some of these out with her.

There are some great recipes in here. Some of these flowers I knew were edible, other may surprise you.

Michael Haag caused me to re-think many of my preconceptions of the Templars, most specifically their mythical connection to the Freemasons. "The Templars" is chock-full of well-written, easy-to-understand (and absorb), documented history of the ill-fated Knights Templar. Mr. Haag provides sufficient history from all sides of the religious and political equation, Christianity (more specifically, European Catholicism), Islam, Judaism, and others, to fully understand how the Templars came into being, what they did, why they did it, and the results therefrom. I found it to be most enjoyable, most informative, and extremely thought-provoking. I recommend this book to any person with an interest in the Templars and their activities.

Allow me to address my dislike first. It is wordy and very comprehensive, at times I felt like I was having a tooth pulled. Expect to take about 8 hours to read through this book. Now for the likes. It is comprehensive with plenty of backbone to sink your teeth into. He does an excellent attempt to bring the Templars to life with documented historical facts. He addresses how and when much of the fantasy, myth, and mystery around the Templars were created. In the final portion of the book you will find details of books, sources, and online sources that will bring you back to this book as a reference for many months if not years to come.

This survey of the history of the Templars is very readable. However, much of the book concerns events in the Middle East from Biblical times through the Crusades. Yet not one map identifying the many locations discussed is included in the book. Also, although there is an index, it refers to page numbers, not the Kindle locations. Finally, the first quarter of the book concerns the Middle East before the Crusades, and almost half of the book concerns debunked conspiracy theories, descriptions of locations etc. which may not be of much interest to anyone who is simply desirous of learning about the Templars.

Excellent read. I like the well-rounded history of all that influenced the time. Everything that lead to the establishment of the KT, their influences, the true circumstances of their demise, and their influences to this day. The only knock I have is that it would've been nice to see maps of the areas, rather than imagine. I wound up looking on the internet for some of the places. Either way, a great read, and answered all my questions.

I have to admit this: I got halfway through this book and decided that I had learned enough about the Knights Templar. I learned some fascinating history from a different angle about the era 1099 to 1351 A.D.. I had no idea that the Holy Lands were occupied for such a stretch by Europeans; didn't know how disciplined the Templars were nor how many people it took to serve one knight (twenty-seven). Didn't know that the Crusades and the Templars were named later, that these pilgrimages to the Holy Land brought commerce to towns along the route--and marauders hence the Templars. That the papacy missed that Islam wasn't just one more heresy. I just couldn't take all the slaughter. After quite a few reports of the carnage I got the picture. (The book is on my Kindle so if I'm somewhere and want to dip back into this world I'll read a bit more.) I did enjoy the author's academic perspective. He gleaned his information from several sources, if possible, and discussed sketchier stories. For example, he says that the claims that Mary Magdalene came to France were fabrications to draw tourists to the area. Apparently, tourism is as old as human existence.

I liked the first 3 quarters of the book approximately. But after that it gets too much into the conspiracy theories that arose after the Templars had long disappeared; in other words all the false stories that were written about the Templars. I didn't get into a feeling of being a holy knight on a crusade in the book. Nonetheless the book deserves its four stars from the interesting facts I learned about how the crusades would have failed long before they did were it not for the Templars (and the Hospitalers).

For those who want to know the real history of the Knights Templar, and not the silly Dan Brown-type nonsense, this book is highly recommended. It is a little repetitive at times, or at least it feels this way when read on a Kindle, but my impression is that Michael Haag is a much more professional, impartial and genuine scholar and historian than 90% of those who have written on the subject. By the end of the book one despairs of any resolution in the Middle East after millennia of conflict, by Haag does end the book with an added bonus for those who, like me, would one day want to visit the "Holy Land:" a delightful description of all the remaining castles and locations of importance, with guides for where to go when one gets there.

Great book. Explains a lot about what's going on in the World today. I've read a lot about the Templars in many different books. This book puts it all in one place.

The mathematics of finance is not trivial, but neither is it really all that difficult; nevertheless, Duffie works to make you think that it is.I maintain a scale of good versus bad mathematics writing in my head, against which I calibrate books I read. This scale stretches from, at one end, the faculty of Moscow University, in particular Israel Gelfand, Vladimir Arnold and Andre Kolmogorov, all of whom manage to explain to me hard things so that they seem easy, to, at the other, Darrell Duffie.

the book is great but the copy I got is not new although the seller claims it to be brand-new. Actually copy I got is not-for-sale test sample. Feel unhappy about this, other than that, I like the book.

Duffie's book has been around for 20 years at this point. It is an absolute classic, born from the author's phd course at Stanford. It is concise. It is rigorous. It is not for the faint of heart.The comment "disorganized" is precisely the comment I get from my own undergrads when they don't understand something. It's nonsense. This book is supremely well organized. It is not for poets, however. You'll need to know some math, including a solid foundation in stochastic processes and Ito calculus.

The Kindle version of this book is of extremely poor quality. It looks like trash.In 2013, paying customers who fork over $60 (USD) for the electronic version of this book deserve more than a crappy HTML-ized version of the printed text where the equations do not scale properly or even line up with the baseline of surrounding text.By flipping through the free sample provided above and comparing it with a copy of the print edition, one can quickly assess just how badly the publisher has wrecked the typesetting of the formulas by converting the text from native PDF to their own proprietary Kindle format. Only certain formats (PDF being foremost among them) can faithfully preserve all of the elegance and beauty that mathematical typesetting systems like LaTeX provide.By refusing to purchase the electronic version, customers can send a strong message to the publisher that they will not accept an inferior product in order to accommodate their desire for digital rights management.The "Kindle Replica" format is a potential solution to this problem as the latter is nothing more than a DRM-wrapped version of PDF.Question to the publisher: why are you not offering a Kindle Replica version of this text, because if you did, I would purchase it immediately.

Optimality implies that the stochastic discount factor must be equal to the investors' intertemporal marginal rate of substitution.- It provides a unified treatment of discrete-time and continuous-time models. Many finance textbooks focus on the mathematic tools and emphasize the difference between continuous-time and discrete-time tools--usually at the expense of the economics underlying both types of models. In contrast Duffie's book emphasizes the conceptual unity between continuous-time and discrete-time asset pricing.This book was written more for students and academics than for pratictioners. It is not a reference or a recipe book for traders and programmers. Several chapters are devoted to general-equilibrium models that pratictioners are not likely to find useful. However, the essentials of derivative asset pricing and the term structure are also covered. The latest edition even includes a chapter on corporate finance.Finally, this book is pretty much self-contained. All the graduate-level math results used in the proofs are presented either in the main body of the book, or in appendices.

Probably the best book in the subject. Clear explanations, nothing left to the imagination. Explains thoroughly both discrete and dynamic Asset Pricing Models, and even goes down to the practical numerical methods used in asset pricing. Excellent book.

An excellent story with a level of characterization difficult to achieve in only 160 pages. Murderbot was a well developed character with traits which quickly made me interested in finding out how it was going to handle the situation it was in. Very engaging to watch it become more aware of its humans on their space exploration mission. I got a good chuckle to find that Murderbot withdrew from the noisy, emotional, overwhelming world of the humans by watching feeds of entertainment programs.The ending for this segment was a very good setup for more stories to come. I was a little apprehensive about the length of the story because I have been disappointed by short stories and novellas in the past because they never fully engaged my emotions. I didn't need to worry about that with this story by Martha Wells and I am definitely looking forward to reading the continuing adventures of this Imitative Human Bot Unit.

Oh, how I loved this book. SecUnit, referred to only in their own internal monologue as Murderbot, is a part-organic, part-machine artifical intelligence who has hacked their governor switch so that they don't have to obey commands. Yet they continue to do so, while remaining indifferent--or actively opposed to being around--the human crew it serves. Murderbot would much rather read or watch a soap opera than interact with their clients.As a security unit, Murderbot generally serves clients who have bid for their services: in this case, a small crew surveying a planet. When things start to go wrong, Murderbot has to decide how much to reveal of their own self-determination. The reactions that Murderbot and the crew have to each other as they get to know each other better under difficult circumstances are so wonderful.Murderbot's voice is engaging, and the plot zips along. I just meant to start this novella, but I ended up reading the whole thing in one delightful sitting. No spoilers about the end, but I really loved both the choices the crew made, and a particularly startling one that Murderbot made. I will be very eagerly anticipating the second Murderbot Diary.

The Murderbot series is a pretty good read but definitely not worth the $33.96 price. It is really one book, divided into novella-length stories – an very annoying marketing ploy. I bought the $3.99 first book and that would have been it for me, if my nephew hadn’t given me the other three. The story is a biography of an Artificial Intelligence during one mission, and the humans, augmented humans, bots and other artificial intelligences he meets along the way. Balancing this new found freedom while executing its security mission makes for a very clever and entertaining story that will definitely hit the sweet spot for even the most discerning Sci-FI fans

What a brilliant premise: a sentient construct, bored and annoyed by real humans, but who spends hours watching media serials, movies, and listening to music. And yet, running through the story, is the suggestion of all that media is helping Murderbot become self-determined. All Systems Red is a great, fast, fun read that kept me up well past my bedtime with action and adventure, humor, and great commentary on what it means to be human--or not. Highly recommend.

I hate to give such a low rating to a book I think is written well, but 2 stars is a reflection of my enjoyment level for this one.At first, I thought "All Systems Red" was going to be a win. The voice from page 1 is just spot on. Murderbot is hilarious, and I laughed out loud multiple times. Sadly, though, that's where my enjoyment ended. There's no intriguing plot here, and every character except our faulty robot narrator is totally static and uninteresting.I can see why a lot of people have enjoyed this novella. It's funny and fast-paced. But it also fell flat for me. I think I'm done with the Murderbt diaries.

I've been anxiously awaiting The Murderbot Diaries, ever since the first teaser chapters were released. As expected, Martha Wells did not fail to deliver another phenomenal story.Our hero is SecUnit, an AI robot that has hacked its own governor module and found this universe's answer to Netflix. Bored with the mind-numbing security detail for a routine geological survey, it just wants to get back to base so it can watch the latest episode of its favorite serial show. And, as Wells would say, that's when everything went to ****.SecUnit/Murderbot is an intelligent and compassionate being, with a healthy dose of social anxiety. It has reservations about its human companions, but still works tirelessly to ensure their survival. Woven throughout the plotline, though, is the not-so-subtle discussion about whether S.U. is merely a tool, to be utilized and then cast aside, or a being worthy of the same dignity and respect as any other human.I can't wait to see what the future holds for S.U.! An excellent start to this new series!!

I just took my Kaplan test today and my scores were as follows:Reading: 91%Math: 93%Writing: 67%Science: 70%Critical Thinking: 94%My overall score was 81%. This is pretty good condsidering the minimum to get into the school I’m aiming for is 70%.(Also, my school doesn’t use the science score.)Overall, the book was quite helpful. The book goes over the material for the HESI and Kaplan. Only study the material for the Kaplan if you’re only taking the Kaplan test. The other material won’t help you. Also for the science portion, only study Anatomy and Phyisiolgy. You can skip over everything else because it won’t be on the Kaplan test. I only studied for 2 weeks and I think my score isn’t bad for 2 weeks of studying. I ran out of time on the writing portion and didn’t fill in 2 questions. I found the writing and science portions much harder in real life than the practice test that the book provided. The reading and math were actually easier than the practice exams. There were some questions on the exam that the book didn’t cover. For example, there was a questions about asthma but this book briefly went over the respiratory system and never mentioned asthma. And that’s just one example. For anatomy and physiology, just go over your old PowerPoints and notes along as reading this book.

I just took the Kaplan Nursing Entrance exam today. I wish I had seen other reviews prior to purchasing this. Many reviewers have indicated that the book is not useful. I passed the exam, but fortunately I utilized ACT writing study books and math help online. This book covers various exams and is definitely not on point with the "Kaplan" test. You will over prepare for the map if you study all of the topics covered in this book. The writing section on the actual test is extremely odd and subjective. Look elsewhere for study material.

The "Top 10 list" contrivance imposes an arbitrary structure that in some cases clearly requires some filler to fill out a particular list. It also means that any particular item's coverage is frustratingly thin. Instead of a whole chapter on, say, Seaworld or the San Diego Zoo and strategies for visiting these attractions, you get... two pages. And within those two pages, the authors attempt to cover 10 discrete things, meaning nothing at all is covered well or in any detail. Adding to the frustration is that much of those two pages will be taken up with tiny photos that are themselves too small to be of any real use. I've found this book to be entirely inadequate in planning a family vacation to San Diego, so ordered the Frommer's counterpart. Frommer's San Diego 2012 (Frommer's Complete Guides)

Completely useless book. No information other than very basic lists. Waste of money.

Great recommendations. This guide helped me plan a great trip with kids. I was able to plan what time and types of tickets to get for Sea World and the Zoo.

I loved the first section where this book detailed the different sites to visit. We found a couple of museums and things to check out while in San Diego that we wouldn't have known about otherwise. Especially nice is the feature where certain attractions have the address, phone number, hours of operation, and admission cost listed. Less research that we have to do before our trip!However, we were disappointed with the restaurant and bar suggestions. I checked out several of the suggestions on Yelp and they had very negative reviews. I realize this could just be the author's perception vs the reviewers on Yelp, but it was discouraging.A big negative about the book is that the restaurant and bars are priced with the usual $$, $$$, $$$$ way of pricing, but how they came about this pricing scheme isn't all that helpful. The book states the following: "Price Categories include a three-course meal for one, half a bottle of wine, and all unavoidable extra charges including tax." It is hard to judge what they consider $$ or $$$ as we don't drink wine nor do we both order an individual appetizer and dessert when we go out. If this is how you eat, this probably won't bother you, but it was hard for us to figure out if a restaurant/bar was actually in our desired price range or not.Missing was a list of breweries in SD. Seriously, SD is a HUGE brewery hotspot and there wasn't a Top 10 list for that.Loved the pullout map (even though it didn't include Escondido which we needed).Anyway, overall it was an okay book.

The book is dated 2005. Some of the information is no longer relevant. Will will use it for basic information, but in description does not star it is so old. DK travel books are great when they are current.

I love the whole series of Top 10 travel books and this one does not disappoint. Easy to use. Easy to carry when traveling.
